The Gallery of Kustanovich in St. Petersburg has opened an art exhibition «TERRITORY 50», dedicated to the anniversary of the painter Dmitry Kustanovich.

The exhibition presents artworks by the painter Dmitry Kustanovich from different years. Some of the exhibited artworks have not been shown to the broad public before. The exhibition is designed to sum up a certain segment of the painter's creative path, as well as to define the vector of further development of his art.

The exhibition space immerses the viewer in the story of the painter's creative path, full of discoveries and unique artistic finds. Works in the technique of oil graphics, impressionistic sketches, paintings from the series «Russian», decorative paintings, sea and forest landscapes and many other works of the painter become bright pages of the book about his life in art. The exposition recreates the stages of the formation of the authorial style of the painter — spatial realism, as well as analyzes the opportunities of its development. The experiment with the image of the environment and space is still one of the key tasks that the artist sets himself, which is demonstrated by new artworks presented at the exposition, such as «Narva Zastava», «Garnet» and others.

Positioning this exhibition as a territory of dialogue, the organizers sought to give it an interactive character: until the end of the exhibition, works from the private collection of the painter's family will be periodically presented.

The name of the exhibition - «TERRITORY 50» - not only refers to the author's style of the painter — spatial realism, but is conditioned by the fact that it takes place in the personal gallery of the master. The gallery space is comprehended as a place of concentration of artistic discoveries not only of the author of the works, but also of his viewer. The territory of the discovery is the environment that forms the exhibition space of the gallery, where information about all the events of the creative life of the painter and the viewer is stored «in a collapsed form». The exhibition aims to expand the tangle of space and time and present the stages of the painters's work as a non-linear path full of searches and discoveries.

According to art critic Dronik M. V., the exhibition turned out to be very personal, uncovering the painter's work to the broad public from a new perspective. Better known to the St. Petersburg audience as the author of decorative artworks and works in the impressionist spirit, here Kustanovich demonstrates the talent of the painter of the lyrical genre. Artworks connected to events of private life evoke a genuine sense of empathy in the viewer.

As part of the personal exhibition of Dmitry Kustanovich, Natalia Savina's works are presented. They are made in the author's technique of bead mosaic using crystals and semiprecious stones.
